ADVICE NEEDED
Since the cold weather is starting to roll around, I realize that I need cold-weather shoes. Warm boots with traction appeal to me, so I'm thinking of investing in UGGs... or are they too out of date by now? I just can't do any other high-heeled boot stuff cuz that would be a whole lot of weight on my toes.
Nordstrom's is having a deal thing with boots, so here are my choices:So, which one would you recommend?
I've been reading like a monster, but I need some more recommendations. i was going to read marquez's book- the name i forgot- but then oprah chose it for her book club, and it kind of made me not want to buy it.
thus far, i've read:
100 years of solitude
Kaffir Boy
Cry the Beloved Country
Howl's Moving Castle
A Handmaid's Tale
Black Dahlia
L'affaire
Farenheit 451
Kite Runner (whoever recommended this- keren or jemi- thank you! it was wonderful!)
Namesake
Millions
Counterfeit Son
In the Company of the CourtesanAny recommendations?

American Gods
Good Omens
both by Neil Gaiman
Ender's Game by Orson Scott Card
and I don't know if you've read this already but Dogs of Babel by Carolyn Parkhurst
and freakin can you actually finish Jonathan Strange & Mr. Norrell????
also, a fun kid's book is the troll books by I think her name is Katherine Langrish. Trilogy about fun Scandinavian fairy tales and stuff.
and the Pit Bull Placebo, by I don't know who.
and another interesting dog behavior book that you might like and that I would honestly not recommend to anyone else because they'd say "shut up," is Calming Signals by Turid Rugaas.
also, I think Technica Moon Boots are way cuter than Uggs.
I like option 2 or 3...! I never cared for uggs and thought they were ugly. Sorry if I offended anyone. I know they were the "in" thing last year, and very practical... but NOT for Southern California...!
Glad you liked THE KITE RUNNER. My AP kids are discussing it right now...!
Other recs: THE KITCHEN GOD'S WIFE by Amy Tan; THE GLASS CASTLE (it's a memoir and several people recommended it to me - I haven't read it yet, but it's on my must read list); A THOUSAND SPLENDID SUNS by Khaled Hosseini (I'm 1/2 way through it right now and it's quite good); REMAINS OF THE DAY by Kazuo Ishiguro (another AP book that my kids and I love); THE SECRET LIFE OF BEES by Sue Monk Kidd (or Sue Kidd Monk...?); THE BLUEST EYE by Toni Morrison (SOOO grotesquely sickening and sad... tragic... my little 10th graders loved it)
i would not recommend uggs because they don't stand up to snow--at all (says a stylish friend of mine! she was in NYC during a blizzard wearing uggs and had to stop by at j crew and buy wellies!). if you're looking for function, i would say something waterproof would be good. you can always buy that spray that makes leathers/suedes waterproof. i like #2 the best.
I say #1, 2 or 4. I'm thinking about getting uggs too...they're not super cute, but they seem easy to slip on and super warm.
oh, i'm thinking of reading marquez's book too...i saw a movie poster for it and it seems like a romantic story. i'm assuming you mean love in the time of cholera?
yeah...wasn't kite runner great? next on my to read list is "his dark materials" trilogy by pullman. it's supposed to be awesome!
oh, i like #1 & 2 best!
i agree...#1 or 2.
have u read jesusland? it's pretty freaking sad.
hi esther! i hear that uggs are outdated but i don't care. they are so warm and comfortable. i vote for #4. handmaid's tale. scarrry book. have you read four loves by c.s. lewis? i'm reading it right now.
my vote is #3, but it looks like that's already behind. i just finished THE TIME TRAVELER'S WIFE and i really liked it. also, THE GLASS CASTLE was a very interesting and quick read.
