Korean DRAMA DRAMA: No, I am not repeating myself. Last night I actually witnessed drama that seemed to come straight out of a korean drama. I went with some friends to Dongdaemun to do some shopping from 10pm-1am at those gadawful crowded stores and street vendor places. After shopping, one of them wanted to eat at the side street food vendor, so we sat at one of those plastic tables. Five minutes into the meal (pig intestines- i didn't touch it), we hear sobbing behind us. A lady was sobbing, and I mean heaving, gasping sobs. We got used to the crying sounds, but then she started yelling, which was accompanied by more yelling. And then the episode climaxed when the lady overturned a table in a fit of rage. I was scared, but fascinated.
I spent the day today with my aunt's colleague from France. She's a physicist/geographer from Strasbourg attending a conference at SNU. I had dinner with her saturday night, and then spent the day with her today, but I still don't know her name... exactly. She has a really thick French accent, and it sounds something like Njastiala or something along those lines. I kept saying, "pardon?" after she said her name, and it got to the point where I just pretended to hear clearly.
We had dinner at Dos Tacos in Gangnam. Yummy, yummy burritos with avocados. I have to say that they are TASTY! I got burrito juice all over my hands, and I forgot to clean my hands with the moist towels. You might think it's disgusting, and normally, I would too. But on the subway, this man sat next to me who had a very distinct and offensive odor: soju, beef, pork, oil, grease, fire, ash, kimchi. The combination is fine in my stomach- minus the fire and ash, but outisde of it, not so nice. I plugged my nose with two of my knuckles, kinda like Rodin's "the Thinker" and breathed in my burrito hands for the entire ride. I was never so happy for smelly hands.
I FOUND A CHURCH! I think.
I went to the Anglican church of korea this past sunday, and I really liked the service. It's a small English speaking congregation made up of families and such. Lots of english and irish or scottish folk. I'm going there again this sunday and i plan on trying out their bible study. HOPEFULLY THIS WILL BE IT!CONFIRMATION
I signed my contract yoking me to SNU until December 2008. So please make plans to come visit me in the motherland!By the way, I've finished the Bluest Eyes... twas very good, very sad, very disturbing, very thought-provoking. In fact, i kept thinking, what would jemi's 10th graders have said about the book.

dude- when we had mexican food at apgu 4 years ago, they served SPAGHETTI SAUCE on our enchiladas. such a disappointment. time traveler's wife, glass castle, wicked, the bluest eye, the bean trees, nectar in a sieve, the good earth... all great.
cool.
