  • i finished bean trees by barbara kingsolver the other night. i liked it. it wasn't what i expected, cuz the first book i read from her was the poisonwood bible (i think it was a christmas gift from keren... thanks by the way! i loved it!). i kept thinking i was reading a billie letts book. but, i still enjoyed it. parts of it made me tear up, especially ones about turtle.

today my trainer asked me if i wanted to be set up with her brother who's the same age as me. the professor jogging next to me told me that i should definitely take her up on the offer cuz, "he's really good-looking." apparently, he's a model here. so i look at my trainer and say, "you see me everyday; you weigh me everyday, and you still think that a good-looking model would go out with me?" yes, he would be lucky to have me : ) but the world just doesn't work that way. give me one example of a good looking guy with a not-so-good looking girl.

i told her i'm not interested in a boyfriend at this time in my life (i.e. while i'm in korea). unless he's that one guy from coffee prince, who at first glance seems pervy, but upon watching the entire drama, he's not so bad... even though he drives a girly car... and in reality, isn't so great looking. so i guess i'll have to scratch him too.

    not so bad right?

and then there's this monstrosity. so wrong on so many levels (bon, this one's for you)

this past monday i had lunch with the head professor at the language place at the medical campus. she was all embarassed about using her english, and then i find out that she got her ph.d in america in english syntax. ew! i told her that her english was probably a lot more proper than mine would ever be. anyway, it was really trippy cuz she showed me my classrooms and.... my office!? i share the office with the other full-time instructor who's name is, and i kid you not, daniel craig. she gave me a set of keys to the main office, and then to... my office. it made it so real... and scary. anyway, i'll take pictures and post them as soon as i buy a usb cable that actually works for my camera. so far i'm 0 for 2.

    this is the medical campus

this is the main campus. it's really really beautiful. the campus is surrounded by mountains that are green in the spring and summer; riotous with color in the fall; and blanketed in snow in the winter. again, i'll take pictures and post as soon as my darn camera thing is resolved.

enough ramblings. i hope that everyone is doing well. especially those who are near the fires. if you need a place to stay, you can always come here and stay with me!

  • if you're done with bean trees, you should move on to pigs in heaven by barbara kingsolver. and from there, it's a logical cross-author leap to the education of little tree by forrest carter.

  • esther, that guy is so cute! i bet korea is so pretty right now with all the colorful leaves. have fun! i miss you!

  • wow, the campus is pretty...i've seen korea univeristy and yunsei but never seoul university. does your trainer's brother look like this model?

  • hahahha daniel craig!  dunno why but that made me laugh.

    ESTAR!!!  TURN ON THE LIGHTS!!!

  • Whoa, he's buff! he looks so girly and lanky in the show but who knew all that under his clothing??? and the premise of that show is...wow. i saw a couple minutes of it cause my roommates are crazy about it. There were no subtitles so they had to explain every single thing to me. that campus IS pretty! wow, that's crazy that you have an office! esther, i want to visit SO badly! i'm thinking of teaching in korea if paris doesn't work out! ummm, what else did i want to say? ohhh you should definitely go out with the model!!! just let him buy you a really nice meal and see how it is!!! then go karaoke after!!! ohh myyy perfect korean date! and he WOULD be lucky to have you!

    i miss youuuuuuuu!!!!

  • haha, benjie's all caps comment made me laugh outloud. i totally remember that. =) i miss korea...i want to visit so badly, especially this time of the year! enjoy the dahn-poong!

  • You share an office with the sexiest James Bond yet???  hahahaha!  I used to make my kiddos read THE BEAN TREES, but I decided not to teach it anymore cuz... I never really thought much of it, and neither did my kiddos.  I read POISONWOOD too... That was prolly more interesting than BEAN TREES, but I have decided I'm not much of a Kingsolver fan.  I read THE EDUCATION OF LITTLE TREE.  Cute story.  Very simple.  VERY controversial.  All of this controversy about it being a fictionalized memoir blah blah blah.  Miss you!!!  Who would've known you would end up in the motherland with your own office, getting set up with models and teaching classes, posting half-nude pictures of korean men...  Ahhhh... little estar, you are grown up, aren't you???

  • es. i'm scared for you. please don't ever post a korean homo on your xanga again. other than that, i'm real proud of you sis. you get to work at such a beautiful campus everday. live out your own korean drama.

  • gross! his zipper is open!

  • james bond!  that's cool.  date him instead.  that guy is good-looking in an unattractive way.  i think you can do better.  plus, he might be stupid and you'll resent him for it.

  • how romantic...perhaps you'll hit it off with daniel craig...wouldn't that be a real life korean drama?
